A view from behind of two people embracing at a crowded street festival during a sunny day. They are draped in a large, translucent rainbow Pride flag, with one person holding up a smaller rainbow hand flag. A white geometric pattern runs down the right border of the image.

In a piece published last June in celebration of Pride Month, we compiled a list of educational and actionable resources to help leaders of the plant-based foods industry continue to fight for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, within our industry and beyond. As an organization, we want to reemphasize that we stand firmly united with the LGBTQ+ community, and hope that our own industry-oriented community is and remains a safe space for all – across the spectrums of gender and orientation, religion, ethnicity, and culture.

Since last year’s Pride Month, we published our Commitments to DEIJA – or Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, and Accessibility – which now act as a guiding pillar that underscores every aspect of our work. Our commitments are two-fold, addressing the need for equity and inclusion internal to PBFA/I, as well as externally to the broader industry and those whose welfare hinges on the long-term success (as we define it) of our food system. We remain committed to partnering with organizations and companies that live our values everyday, that hold us accountable to our commitments of inclusivity, and that uphold key pillars of DEIJA – including championing and uplifting voices of the queer community.

The LGBTQ+ community’s influence on our industry has been crucial to our growth and success thus far, with many leaders and trailblazers of the plant-based foods industry also hailing from the queer community. The fight for LGBTQ+ rights is ongoing, and regardless of background or personal identity, we must stand in unity and hold a torch for all our friends and neighbors in the face of oppression. It is up to us to live out the intersectional ideals that so bravely celebrate and uplift tolerance, justice, and equality. So, in celebration of 2024 Pride, we have updated our list of educational and actionable resources, including more tools and charities/organizations that we enthusiastically invite you to support.
