The Plant Based Foods Association (PBFA) wrapped up 2024 with an impactful Lobby Day in Washington, D.C earlier this month. This event marked the culmination of a year of nonstop advocacy to champion policies that support the growth and accessibility of plant-based foods.

The December Lobby Day brought together PBFA’s policy team and representatives from member companies including Oatly, MyForestFoods, HBCU College of Plant-Based Lifestyle Medicine, and Rebellyous Foods. These industry leaders met face-to-face with key congressional offices to discuss top policy priorities, including opposing unnecessary and burdensome labeling bills that could stifle innovation, mislead consumers, and undermine the progress of the plant-based foods sector.

Advocating for Consumer Choice and Industry Growth

The meetings on Capitol Hill focused on ensuring that the plant-based industry continues to thrive and remains accessible to consumers. By opposing legislation that imposes restrictive labeling requirements or creates barriers to market entry, PBFA and its members are protecting both the industry’s growth and consumers’ ability to make informed food choices.

Building Relationships Through Connection

The day concluded with a festive, holiday-themed Hill reception co-hosted by PBFA, Food Solutions Action, and The Good Food Institute. Nearly 100 Hill staffers attended this celebratory event, which provided a unique opportunity to engage with decision-makers in a relaxed setting. Events like these are crucial for raising the plant-based industry’s profile, fostering meaningful connections, and building awareness about the role plant-based foods can play in creating a sustainable food system.

Looking Ahead to 2025

As the year draws to a close, PBFA remains committed to advocating for policies that support the plant-based foods industry. The December Lobby Day and its accompanying reception reflect the ongoing dedication of PBFA and its members to making a tangible impact in Washington, D.C.

Looking ahead, PBFA will continue to champion the industry’s priorities and ensure that plant-based foods are a key part of the conversation in policy-making circles. Together, we’re shaping a future where plant-based options are highly accessible and enjoyed nationwide.
