WASHINGTON, DC - April 8, 2026: The Plant Based Foods Association (PBFA) board of directors has named Marjorie Mulhall as the organization's new executive director. Mulhall previously served as PBFA's senior director of policy before taking on the role of interim executive director in November 2025. Her appointment signals a renewed commitment to growing PBFA's influence and strengthening its membership base.

“It is an honor to step into the role of executive director and support the growing momentum of the plant-based foods industry. My goal is to expand our industry’s influence, grow our membership, and deliver real wins for plant-based foods in 2026 and beyond,” said Mulhall.

Mulhall brings deep expertise to the role, having spearheaded PBFA's policy portfolio and previously served as executive director of Earthjustice Action. She has played a key role in advancing major policy priorities for the plant-based foods industry, including contributing to the successful, coalition-driven enactment of the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, which authorizes schools participating in the National School Lunch Program to serve plant-based milks that are nutritionally equivalent to dairy milk. She has also overseen the defeat of numerous anti-fair market bills that would have undermined consumers’ access to plant-based foods.

“Marjorie's appointment as executive director is a natural next step for PBFA. Her deep policy expertise, combined with her understanding of our members and the industry, makes her uniquely positioned to lead this organization through an important moment for plant-based foods,” Nicole Sopko, PBFA Board President.

Mulhall will also continue to lead the policy portfolio for the Plant Based Foods Institute (PBFI), the trade group’s 501c(3) nonprofit sister organization. While PBFA directly represents the plant-based foods industry's interests, PBFI focuses on improving the broader conditions that enable the plant-based sector to thrive, from agricultural value chain and marketplace development to public policy and cross-sector partnerships.

As executive director, Mulhall outlined PBFA’s 2026 priorities across three core areas: protecting and growing the plant-based foods industry's political power; ensuring a fair regulatory and statutory environment; and strengthening the association itself. PBFA will continue to actively engage on state and federal legislation and regulations affecting plant-based foods, from product labeling to emerging nutrition policies, while pursuing opportunities to expand government support for plant-based foods nationwide.
